Copyright – Navitas College Of Public Safety

Any person conducting unauthorised copying may be subject to legal action by that copyright owner unless such copying is permitted by law.

It is permissible to reproduce parts of copyright works where 'fair dealing' applies. 'Fair dealing' includes research, private study, criticism or review and can include one or more articles on the same subject in a periodical publication.

As a guide, where any published work exceeds 10 pages and is not artistic, 10% of the total number of pages, or one chapter is considered reasonable.

Copying that exceeds the above guide may still constitute 'fair dealing' if solely for research or study purposes. It is recommended reference be made to criteria outlined in Copyright Act 1968, in particular to section 40.
