Resumes, covering letters & interview skills

We provide an intensive employment support program, which include a series of 'Employment Focus' Workshops covering areas such as:

• interview preparation
• resume development and analysis
• information on voluntary work in relevant fields
• answering your key selection criteria
• writing effective cover letters

We also provide information, advice and activities to help you make choices and decisions about study, employment and career options, and offer guidance on how to develop the skills and attributes you’ll need to become job ready for a career in the criminal justice industry.

Field Placement Program

The work placement program will give you first-hand experience of what it’s like to work in the field and will give you a good, practical grounding for when you graduate. The Student Support Unit will assist you with your placement choice, liaise with your host employer and be in touch with you during your placement period to ensure you are maximising this experience.

Skills Enhancement Program

Students who are new to tertiary education are required to complete and pass the Skills Enhancement Program. This practical program covers topics such as time management, effective note taking and reading, and examination techniques. It’s run during Orientation and is free.

Careers advice & workshops

In the third trimester of each year, we hold our annual Careers Day. It’s a great chance for you to meet with employers within the criminal justice system and security industry.

If you’re wondering about career choice, our Student Support Officer is on hand to answer any questions you may have or to put you in contact with relevant employers. They can also book you into one of our careers workshops, which cover career outcomes, how to apply for a position, where to look for employment, and what you should know about the selection criteria.
