NCPS Exam Preparation Tips!

Even the most well prepared students can feel uneasy as exam days approach.

Here are some tips to ensure you feel in control and perform at your best – despite the stresses of exams.

Ways to remember

  1. Revise your material regularly (more than just once – have a weekly revision time for each subject)
  2. Summarise your lecture notes
  3. Focus on definitions, principles, facts and diagrams as sources of information
  4. Use examples to remind you of the main ideas
  5. Close to the exams set some study time aside every night
  6. After an evening of study, look at your notes for 2 minutes the next morning as this reinforces learning
  7. Put study notes onto file cards and carry them with you to revise during the day. A good way to do this is put a question on one side and the answer on the other so you can test yourself
  8. Use mnemonics (rhymes, words, images) to remind you of important information
  9. Attempt to recall information without looking at notes
  10. Work with a study partner to ask each other questions about the topic

Ways to prepare

  1. Seek out past exam questions for practice
  2. Practise exam questions in exam-like conditions (hand writing, time limit, one long session)
  3. Keep up your usual sleep, eating and exercise routines
  4. Let others know this is an important time for you, limited you social and family activities
  5. Check exam times and arrive early
  6. Have your usual meal before exam
  7. Positive attitude, avoid negative people, think of success and most importantly don’t panic before an exam
