Support Services
Student welfare & counselling support
If at any time you are experiencing personal or academic difficulties, we encourage you to see our Student Support Officer. They’re available on campus everyday and will always treat your meeting as highly confidential (unless there is an imminent threat to your life or health, in which case they’ll notify the appropriate authority).
They’ll help you with any concerns, issues or difficulties that you may be having with:
- study or course planning/choices
- career choice and development
- personal finances
- personal issues that may affect your ability to study
- grievances
- employment
- health and nutrition
- referrals to other services such as legal, medical and accommodation.
If you find that you need more assistance, we have a relationship with Melbourne University Counselling Service. At the discretion of the Student Support Officer, you may be referred for up to three paid sessions at no cost to you.
Learning & academic support
At NCPS, we want to provide you with the best opportunity to achieve excellent academic results. Our Student Support Unit is there to help you plan, structure and offer you tips on how to meet your study requirements. They’ll keep an eye on your attendance and will offer you help and support if you’re struggling to attend 80% of classes.
If you find you need further academic support, you can always make an appointment with lecturing and tutoring staff who are happy to help you with your coursework.
Emergency services
Telephone crisis counselling
If you’re feeling desperate, just need to talk to somebody, or want to access specialist financial, gambling or youth counselling, there is a range of services that offer free counselling 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Emergency medical and hospital services
If you have an emergency, dial ‘000’ to access Australia’s ambulance service (emergency services). You can also visit the emergency department at your nearest hospital.
Medical & dental services
You can find the nearest medical centre or dental clinic here.
If you’re an international student, you can usually access free medical services from participating general practitioners (GPs). Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) patients are not covered for dental services. If you would like to be covered for these services you will need to upgrade your OSHC. The Student Support Unit can advise you on this.
